Always listen to your wife!

I am on here for a very short posting. I feel miserable and I should have listened to my wife. As some of you know, I started feeling a bit congested last Saturday. Felt a bit more so on Sunday. Started feeling a bit sick Sunday night. Illness has progressed to a full fledged upper respiratory infection and have a tremendous buildup of fluid in my ears. Coughing, aching, feeling miserable.

Dana wanted to make me a Doc appt. on Wednesday. Thanks, but not feeling bad enough… She tried again on Thursday. Felt much worse, but just knew I had hit bottom and would make a strong comeback after a good nights sleep. WRONG! Haven’t felt this bad since I had pneumonia a few years ago. Doc said I should have come in a few days ago. I guess right about the time my caring wife first tried to get me to go see Doc.

Always listen to your wife. I am going back to bed to suffer.

Until next time,

Mark

2 Championship teams!

It has been said that a picture is worth 1,000 words.

Here’s 1,000 words

2010 Boys Champions - Buffett Middle School

While I am at it, here’s 1,000 more…

2010 Girls Champions - Buffett Middle School

The runners in each picture with ribbons and medals finished in the top 10 for either 7th or 8th grade.

Many runners had their best meet at the Omaha Public Schools City Championship. I saw many more parents at this meet than any of the others. It was great to see and hear each Buffett runner cheered on and encouraged to push it further than they had before. Also awesome to see the Principal of Buffett, Dr. Kehrberg, at the meet as well.

Congratulations to the boys and girls teams on a tremendous season. The 7th graders need to take over for the outgoing 8th graders next year and lead the teams to another championship.

Until next time,

Mark

Go Buffett Girls X-Ctry Team!

First of all, I will be cheering for Buffett’s boys Cross Country team also tomorrow afternoon, not just the girls. I will cheer a little louder for the girls as my daughter is on the team and the girls have an outstanding chance of capturing their 5th straight City Championship. During the meets leading up to tomorrow’s Championship, the girls have consistently captured 7 or 8 of the top 13 places and have always captured 2 of the top 3 places. Buffett has many outstanding runners and they really know how to crank it up and consistently dominate.

Of course my loudest cheering will be for my daughter. This is her second year running Cross Country and she has shown steady improvement throughout the meets this year. 2009 was her first year running and she did OK. She was showing decent improvement through two meets, but then she got sick and it really affected her training and her stamina. The last three and a half weeks of the 2009 season had her suffering from an upper respiratory ailment and it really hit her hard. She missed one meet and two practices but her determination and commitment were nothing short of amazing.

2010 has been significantly better. She knew what to expect and how she needed to train to make improvement. Her first meet found her finishing 67th out of just over 100 girls. Next meet she finished 40th. The next two meets she placed 31st and 32nd. Last week she did really well and finished 22nd. She has shown a tremendous level of commitment, and a very strong will in the past couple of weeks. I hope she puts it all together and shows what she is truly capable of when she takes to the course tomorrow. I am nervous for her as I write this as I know how badly she wants to do well.

Below is a picture of the 2010 Buffett girls Cross Country team warming up before a recent meet. At the end of the City Championship tomorrow, I hope to be able to say it is a picture of the 2010 Buffett girls Cross Country team that captured the City Championship. Run hard ladies and give your very best.

I will follow up in the next day or so with the results of the meet and hope to share a few pics at that time.

Until next time,

Mark
